Pregnancy is the most beautiful part of woman life. Imagine, you have your baby inside you and you will deliver a cute and healthy baby. Thus, eating healthy food while pregnancy periods is very important. Some nutrition that needed by pregnant mother are magnesium, zinc, folic acid, vitamin C, vitamin D, vitamin B12, protein, tiamin, riboflavin, calcium, iron, copper, and iodine. Unfortunately, not all food can be consumed by pregnant mother, because contain some materials that can harm to the fetus. Here I give you list of 10 foods that you have to avoid during the pregnancy:
1. Fish
Actually fish is health because of the protein, iron, and omega 3 source. But you have to avoid fish that have high mercury content like swordfish, shark, and marlin. Consuming food contains high levels of mercury during pregnancy will affect to your fetus developing nervous system.
2. Deli meat
Processed meat like ham, sausage, and bacon means that the meat is not fresh because already store in chiller for several days and using some chemical treatment to make the meat is durable. So, in my personal opinion it’s better to limit your consumption of deli meat during the pregnancy. Remember, fresh food is better than the preservation.
3. Unpasteurized milk
Avoid consuming unpasteurized milk because of listeria bacteria content in it. Listeria (Listeria monocytogenes) can cause illness in weak immunity people (like pregnant woman) and may harm the fetus.
4. Caffeine
A study showed that consuming 200 mg caffeine each day will slowing the fetal growth, therefore avoid caffeine during pregnancy.
5. Alcohol
Consumption of alcohol during pregnancy is bad for the health of the fetus. This can cause problems such as miscarriage, the baby died at birth, and brain development disorders. So, during pregnancy you have to stop drinking alcohol completely.
6. Unwashed vegetables
Vegetables are needed to be consumed because of large vitamin and nutrition in it, but make sure to wash them before eaten in order to avoid the potential exposure to toxoplasmosis.
7. Raw meat and seafood
Raw meat and seafood including sushi contain of coliform, toxoplasmois, and salmonella. So, make sure that you only eat well cooked meat. Once again, though not all people have risk to get this infection, but the decreasing immune system on the pregnant mother makes they’re higher risk to be infected.
8. Raw egg
Raw egg contain salmonella, so it’s recommended to be careful to choose Caesar dressing, mayonnaise, unpasteurized eggnog, or custard that commonly made from raw eggs.
9. Cheese
Avoid consuming soft cheese like Feta, Brie, Camambert cheeses, blue-veined cheeses,queso blanco, queso fresco and Panela because these cheeses are made with mould that contain of listeria. Listeria monocytogenes can cause illness in weak immunity people (like pregnant woman) and may harm the fetus.
10. Liver
Liver is rich of the retinol form of vitamin A which is good for health. But it can be harmful to the developing fetus.
