Today we will discuss about green tea health benefits and its composition. Before we jump into the topic, lets see to the history of tea. I’m sure you know that tea is very popular drink in many countries, especially in China and Japan. The tea history can be traced back since thousand years ago in China. According to Chinese legend, an Emperor found tea during on his journey. When he took a rest under a tree, leaves had fallen into his boiling water and suddenly the water color turn to light brown and gave an enticing aroma. Though he didn’t know what kind of that leaves, he drank it and found that he’s tired body became fresh again. Then he decided to take those leaves to his palace.
In fact, the Chinese have a long history about tea. The ancient Chinese believed only the nobility who can consume good tea. Furthermore, tea also used to cure mild illness by scholars there. So, how tea can be spread around the world? A Buddhist Monk from China borrowed tea to Japan in 6th century, then tea was introduced in Europe since 16th century when Portuguese missionary came from their mission on China. Soon people on Europe especially England, found that tea is a valuable drink. No wonder that on that time, England shipped 5 million pounds of tea rose per year.
Actually, there are four types of tea that very popular today according to oxidation process, namely: Black tea, Oolong tea, White tea, and Green tea. Factually all those teas come from the same plant Camellia Sinensis. The different between them is the oxidation process on the leaves. Tea oxidation is a natural chemical on the tea leaves and the degree of oxidation makes the tea become various kinds.
Today, we will talk about green tea health benefits. Do you ever hear that green tea has many benefits for our body health? I bet you know. In fact this tea really has many benefits for us. Green tea originally came from China and since thousand years ago the Chinese use it to treat some kind of diseases such as headaches and depression. So, what makes this tea become so powerful?
The composition of green tea are caffeine, tannin (flavonols), theophylline, theobromine, fat, wax, saponins, essential oils, polyphenols particularly catechins, carotene, vitamin C, vitamins A, B1, B12, K and P, flouride, iron, magnesium, calcium, strontium, copper, nickel, and zinc. As we know that polyphenols has powerful antioxidants that help to fight cancer. Polyphenol also has 5 major types, namely gallocatechin (GC), epicatehcin (EC), epigallocatechin (EGC), epicatechin gallate (ECg), and epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). Moreover, EGCC can obstruct the cancel cell growing, so EGCC can kill cancer without hurting the healthy tissue. Thus green tea can work effectively to fight against some types of cancer, mainly stomach cancer, pancreatic cancer, colon cancer, esophageal cancer, liver cancer, and prostate cancer.
